Caption: Cymbella sp. and Gomphonema sp.diatoms. The half-moon-shaped Cymbella cells in the middle are attached to the substrate with transparent stalks. All three Cymbella cells in valve view, with the fine pattern of the frustule, the housing of the diatom cell, composed of amorphous opaline silica with organic coatings. The chloroplasts of diatoms contain fucoxanthin, which covers the green chloroplasts. That makes the brownish-golden color of all diatoms. The small Gomphonema cells are also fixed to the substrate with stalks and seen from girdle view. Microscopic contrast technique : Differential interference contrast. Magnification 370x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
