Biomethane plant. View of the interior of the UK's first commercial scale anaerobic digester and biomethane-to-grid plant, showing the meter that measures how much methane is being supplied to the grid. This plant produces biogas (by fermentation in a digester) from renewable sources, namely: locally-grown maize and food industry wastes from processing potatoes, chocolate and cereals. The resulting gas (methane) is cleaned, compressed and fed into the gas grid (unlike most biogas derived from vegetable sources that is used to generate electricity). Photographed at Rainbarrow Farm, Poundbury, Dorset, UK.
