Caption: Garden chafer (Phyllopertha horticola), male. This beetle spends three to four years as a grub, living underground and feeding on plant roots. In large numbers the grubs can be a major horticultural and agricultural pest, causing considerable damage to crops, pastures and lawns. The adults are less of a problem, feeding off leaves, buds and flowers.
