Caption: Small emperor moth (Saturnia pavonia), male. The large eye markings on the wings of the moth act as a deterrent to predators. The male has a wingspan of about 6 centimetres and the female, 8 centimetres. This species is native British and generally found on heaths, moors and at woodland edges.
