Caption: Diagnostic neck X-rays. Four X-rays of a human neck from different perspectives to enable diagnosis of medical conditions. A frontal view is at upper left, with two side views at lower left and lower right. The view at upper right shows the neck from an oblique angle, with the head turned to expose the upper vertebrae of the neck. There are seven cervical vertebrae (C1 to C7). The specialised vertebrae connecting to the skull are the atlas (C1) and axis (C2). Between each vertebra are intervertebral discs of fibrocartilage forming joints that allow the spine to bend and flex. X-rays help diagnose degenerative joint conditions and spinal injuries.
