The resulting reactions, also called the citric acid cycle, release carbon dioxide (CO2) and move energy in the form of molecules such as ATP (adenosine triphosphate), ADP (adenosine diphosphate), GTP (guanosine triphosphate), GDP (guanosine diphosphate), NADH/NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) and FADH2/FAD (flavin adenine dinucleotide).
