This 46 metre tower telescope was completed in 1912 and is located on Mount Wilson in the San Gabriel Mountains near Pasadena, northeast of Los Angeles. It is primarily used to study helioseismology and other changes in the sun's nature, as well as for educational demonstrations. Mount Wilson is one of the most productive and successful observatories in astronomical history.
