Caption: Michael Brown (born 1965). US astronomer Michael E. Brown in his office. Brown was appointed professor of planetary astronomy at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) in 2003. His team has discovered many trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs), including the dwarf planet Eris, the only known TNO more massive than Pluto. He was partly responsible for the downgrading of Pluto to a dwarf planet after the discovery of Eris. Photographed at CALTECH, Pasadena, USA.
