Caption: Tsiolkovsky's space station. Illustration by the Russian rocket scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky of an extraterrestrial space station. Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935) was a pioneer of aviation and aerospace design. One of the first to use open-section wind tunnels, he laid many of the foundations of modern aerodynamics. He is best known for his visionary work on the problems of space travel.
