Caption: Light microscopy of large bowel glands showing many goblet cells secreting mucus into the glandular lumen. Intestinal glands also have epithelial cells (blue-stained) that chiefly absorb fluids in the large bowel and similarly in the small bowel serve to absorb nutrients from the diet. Mucoid secretions in the large bowel function to coat and lubricate waste products (fecal material). Magnification x350 when width printed at 10 cm.
