Caption: Plan of the panopticon prison designed by the British philosopher and social reformer Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832). The layout of the prison, with cells around the perimeter and a central guard tower, allows all the inmates to be under surveillance by a single watchman. Building of a similar design have been built, but none of them have been true panopticons.
