Caption: Nicotine vaccine research. Vials containing nicotine vaccines designed to help a patient give up smoking. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to create antibodies that bind with nicotine. This makes a molecule so large that it cannot cross the blood-brain barrier, thus the patient gets none of the pleasure of nicotine. Photographed during tests on a Belgian-made vaccine at the ChemRar facility near Moscow, Russia. in 2012.
