Caption: Gliese 832 and Earth. Composite image comparing the planet Gliese 832 c (left) with Earth (right). Gliese 832 c lies around 16 light-ears from Earth, orbiting within the habitable zone of the red dwarf star Gliese 832. It has an Earth Similarity Index of 0.81, one of the highest Earth Similarity Indices for any known extrasolar planet, and to date, is the second closest known potentially habitable exoplanet to Earth. The habitable zone is a region around a star where the surface temperature of the planet is suitable for liquid water.
