Caption: Illustration of the brain neuron network. The neuron sends information in the form of an electric signal (nervous impulse), it travels via the axon to the synapse, comes into contact with a 2nd neuron (pink synaptic bouton). The electric signal changes into a chemical one, vesicles release glutamate (red) which latches onto the receptors (blue). These receptors open sodium channels and allow Na+ ions (blue) to penetrate the dendritic button of the 2nd neuron, creating an electric current.
