Caption: British geneticists Alan Robertson (1920-1989, left) and Douglas Falconer (1913-2004, centre) with American botanist and geneticist Carl Epling (1894-1968, right). Robertson is best known for his work on the genetics of animal breeding and the artificial insemination of cattle. Falconer is best known for his work long-term selection response in mouse body weight. Epling is best known as the foremost authority on the mint family of plants (Lamiaceae). Photographed at the Symposium on Genetics of Population Structure in Pavia, Italy, in 1953.
