Caption: Yuri Filipchenko (1882-1930), Russian entomologist Yuri Filipchenko. Filipchenko coined the terms microevolution and macroevolution. He was one of the first scientists to incorporate the laws of inheritance established by Gregor Mendel into evolutionary theory. He therefore had great influence on 'the modern evolutionary synthesis' account of evolution. Photographed in 1929.
