Caption: The image shows a young Mursi girl who has removed her lip plate. In recent times it is evident that not all Mursi girls elect to wear a lip plate but those who do, commence the insertion between the ages of 15 to 18 and before they are married. The Mursi are an ethnic group who mainly reside in the Debub Omo Zone of South Eastern Ethiopia near the border of South Sudan. The Ethiopian government's collective name for the Suri, Mursi and Me'en groups who inhabit the southwestern part of the country is the Surma.
