Caption: Sperm whale dissection. Scientists dissecting a dead male sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) found on Henne Strand, Jutland, Denmark. The specimen measured 14 meters in length and weighed an estimated 30 tonnes. Cutting tools and a backhoe loader are used to removed large portions of the whale's tissue. The thick layer of blubber is visible beneath the skin. The tissue samples and skeleton are used for further study by the scientists.
