Caption: Mars hydrated mineral map. Composite satellite image showing the individual sites (dots) where hydrated minerals, formed only in the presence of water, were detected across the surface of Mars. More than ten different hydrous minerals have been found on Mars, with many occurrences found in the same site. In total, several thousand individual mineral exposures have been detected. Image obtained by combining observations made by the OMEGA instrument on ESA's (European Space Agency) Mars Express satellite and the CRISM instrument on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).
