Caption: Phrenological map of the human head. Phrenology is a branch of pseudoscience in which the morphology of the skull is studied. Phrenologists believed the size and shape of the skull to be indicative of various emotional and character traits and of mental abilities. The discipline was founded in 1796 by Dr. Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828) and was very popular during the nineteenth century. Illustration from 'Virtue's Household Physician', Published London 1924.
