Caption: Marble in acid demonstration. Two beakers containing marble in acid. The beaker on the left contains a marble chip, while the other contains powdered marble. Marble is a form of calcium carbonate rock. It reacts with acid to produce hydrogen, which can be seen as bubbles in the solution. The marble powder reacts much faster than the chip as its surface area is much larger. Therefore the beaker on the right fizzes vigorously whilst the other one fizzes much more gently.
