Caption: Apollo Soyuz Test Project docking. US astronaut Thomas Stafford (born 1930, centre-right) shaking hands with Soviet cosmonaut Alexey Leonov (born 1934, centre) as the two crews of the Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) meet in space after the successful docking of their two spacecraft. The ASTP mission was the first joint international manned space-flight. It took place from 15-24th July 1975. The Russian Soyuz 19 and American Apollo CSM-111 spacecraft docked in orbit on 17th July to test a jointly-designed international docking mechanism.
