Caption: Antlion larvae (Myrmeleon sp.) dig pits in loose sand which serve as traps for ants and other small arthropods. As the prey falls into the pit, the antlion tosses loose sand on the quarry, insuring that it will fall to the bottom and be grasped by the antlion's strong jaws. If the antlion is disturbed by a predator it quickly digs itself deeper in the sand to escape capture.
