Caption: Jupiter from Earth. View of the planet Jupiter (bright, upper right) in the night sky as viewed from Earth. Jupiter is one of four gas giant planets in the Solar System. It is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium gas that becomes liquid towards the planet's centre. Deep inside these outer layers is a solid rocky core about the size of the Earth. When observed from Earth it can appear as the third brightest object in the night sky, after the Moon and Venus.
