Caption: Sparkler. This type of hand-held firework consists of a thin metal rod that has been dipped into a pyrotechnic paste and allowed to dry. The paste contains a metallic fuel such as aluminium or magnesium which create silver sparks, an oxidiser such as potassium nitrate to produce oxygen to burn the fuel, and a combustible binder.
