Caption: NOAA tsunami buoys, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, 2006. This is a DART (Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis) surface buoy. It receives data from a bottom pressure recording (BPR) package on the seafloor and transmits it to a satellite, which then relays it to NOAA's Tsunami Warning Centres and other ground stations.
