Carboplatin. Molecular model of the cancer drug carboplatin (C6.H12.N2.O4.Pt). This drug is used to treat ovarian carcinoma, lung, head and neck cancers. It is a cytotoxic drug because it interferes with the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) genetic material in cancer cells, causing cell death. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white), nitrogen (blue), oxygen (red) and platinum (white, larger sphere at centre right).
