Microbiology analysis. Scientist working for the UK's Health Protection Agency pouring sterilised water into a device used to prepare microbial cultures. The water has been irradiated with gamma radiation to ensure that it does not contaminate the results of the analysis. Culturing and studying such samples allows bacterial and fungal diseases to be diagnosed and treated. This work is being carried out at the HPA's Centre for Infections.
