Caption: Engraving of 'Chemical Lectures' Given by Friedrich Accum at the Surrey Institution, London, by Thomas Rowlandson, 1809. Friedrich Accum was the Institution's chemical lecturer from 1803 until c1810. He was a pioneer of chemical analysis and gas-lighting, and campaigned against the adulteration of food. Contemporaries who may be in the audience include Rudolph Ackermann, Sir John Hippersley and Humphry Davy.
