Major studies include laser and magnetic fusion, laser isotope separation, biomedical projects and environmental research. LLNL is home to the NOVA laser (one of the most powerful in the world) and the Mirror Fusion Test Facility. Affiliated to LLNL is a 2, 800 hectare chemical explosives test site. To support its needs, LLNL has one of the largest research computer centres in the world.
