Caption: Coke delivery, early 20th century. Workers delivering gas coke to residents of Detroit, Michigan, USA. Coke is a high-carbon content fuel, produced by heating coal in the absence of oxygen. Gas coke refers to the coke then being heated to produce coal gas for use as a fuel. These workers are employed by the Detroit City Gas Company. This Detroit Publishing Company photograph dates from between 1900 and 1920.
