Caption: Monterey skate (Raja montereyensis). Composite X-ray of a section through a monterey skate, showing its wide flat body and long tail. This species of skate (family Rajidae) was named after the place it was first collected, Monterey Bay, California, USA. This historical specimen was collected in 1904 at a depth of around 50 metres and measures 19.5 centimetres in length.
