Caption: Ox-eyed oreo (Oreosoma atlanticum). X-ray of a section through a juvenile ox-eyed oreo. These marine fish are found in deep waters of the Southern Hemisphere. The genus name Oreosoma (mountain body) refers to the cone-shaped bony structures on the underside of this larval specimen. Adults are more elongate, less oval, and covered with scales. This specimen measures 3.5 centimetres in length.
