Caption: Tick in the groin. Close-up of a tick attached to the groin of an 80-year-old female patient. Ticks (superfamily Ixodoidea) are parasitic arachnids. The females feed on the blood of mammals, birds and reptiles and their body's swell with the blood that they suck via mouthparts embedded deep in the skin. When it is full of blood, it will drop off.
