Caption: Cross-sections of seminiferous tubules of the testis. The tubules contain the seminiferous epithelium comprising various generations of germ cells proceeding through the process of spermatogenesis. This process is far from 100% efficient . Degenerating germ cells die by apoptosis which can be detected using immunocytochemical labelling seen here as deep orange/brown stain deposits. Dead germ cells are removed by Sertoli cells. Magnification x300 when printed at 10 cm height.
