Caption: James Hansen (born 1941), US atmospheric scientist. Hansen is best known for his work on climatology. His main research interests lie in the study of world climate trends and in developing global climate models. One of his most significant pieces of early work was the determination of the physical properties of the clouds that surround Venus. He was director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) from 1981 to 2013. Photographed in 1993.
