Caption: Donati's comet. 1864 print of an image by the US astronomer George Phillips Bond of Donati's comet as it passed the Earth on 4th October 1858. Discovered in 1858 by Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Donati, this comet was one of the brightest seen in the 19th century. It passed nearest the Earth on the 10th October 1858. Imaged from the Harvard College Observatory, USA.
