Caption: Thomas Crampton (1816-1888). 1886 illustration of the British engineer Thomas Russell Crampton. Crampton is best known for designing the Crampton locomotive. He trained on Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western Railway and had many other engineering interests including the electric telegraph and the Channel Tunnel for which he designed a boring machine.
