Caption: Elephant hawk moth (Deilephila elpenor) on lichen-covered wood. Many long tubular flowers depend on this species for pollination since it has a sufficiently long proboscis to reach the deep base of the flowers. The caterpillars feed on grape vine leaves and on Hypericum plants. The species occurs from Europe to Japan. Photographed in the UK.
