Caption: Zodiac Man. 15th-century illustrated manuscript on medical allegories, part of a set of documents referred to as spiritual encyclopaedias of the Middle Ages. This manuscript page shows Zodiac Man, with the signs of the zodiac shown on the areas of the body they were thought to govern (from top: Aries, Taurus, Scorpio, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Cancer, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces). The Macrocosm and Microcosm were central to medieval astrology. The Gothic script (in Latin and German) is on vellum in black and red ink.
