Caption: Fuel cell research. Experimental fuel cell being tested in a laboratory. Fuel cells generate electricity by chemical reactions. The majority of fuel cells combine hydrogen and oxygen to produce water and electricity. Because it only produces water vapour, instead of carbon dioxide, this technology is less polluting than the internal combustion engine. Photographed in 2014, at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, UK.
