Caption: HIV research. Microbiologist using a luminometer to measure human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in human cells in vitro. By applying various chemical reactions to the laboratory cell sample, the release of energy, in the form of emitted light (bioluminescence), is then measured by the luminometer in quantitative units known as relative light units (RLUs).
