Caption: Phototherapy treatment. 20th-century phototherapy treatment, with an ultraviolet (UV) 'Alpine Sun Lamp' being used on a patient's exposed midriff. The nurse and patient are both wearing goggles to protect their eye. This treatment was prescribed for tuberculosis of the spine (Pott's Disease). Modern phototherapy was established in the 1890s by Danish physician Niels Ryberg Finsen. It was traditionally part of physiotherapy, and this treatment is taking place in the Physiotherapy Department of Fitzsimons General Hospital (founded 1918), near Denver, Colorado, USA.
