Caption: Polarised light micrograph of vitamin PP crystals, otherwise known as nicotinamide (niacinamide), one of the B group of vitamins. The abbreviation: vitamin "PP" stands for "pellagra preventing" factor; a deficiency of this vitamin leads to the disease pellagra. Nicotinamide is the amide of nicotinic acid (niacin) and is interchangeable with it, both forms of the vitamin being equally active. Good sources of vitamin PP are meat, yeast extract and some cereals. Magnification: x30 at 35mm size.
