Caption: Christmas at Cape Royds, Antarctica. British explorers outside the hut at Cape Royds in Antarctica, celebrating Christmas on 25 December 1912, during the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). Also known as the Terra Nova Expedition and led by Robert Falcon Scott, a shore party of 33 spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. Scott and four others had died in March 1912 on their return from the South Pole. While waiting for the return of the Terra Nova, other expeditions took place, including this group that included Raymond Priestley. Photographed by one of the expedition geologists Frank Debenham.
