Caption: Brain activity in Lewy body dementia. Coloured positron emission tomography (PET) axial scans showing abnormal metabolic activity in the temporal, parietal and occipital lobes of the brain of an 81-year-old male patient with Lewy body dementia (LBD). LBD is a form of dementia characterised by the presence of Lewy bodies, abnormal clumps of protein that develop inside nerve cells. It is closely associated with Parkinson's disease. The radioactive tracer used was F18-FDG.
