Caption: Light refraction in glass block. Computer illustration showing beams of light being refracted as they pass through a glass block (grey, vertical) at increasing angles of incidence (top to bottom). Refraction is the change in direction of propagation (bending) of a wave (in this case light) that occurs when the wave passes from one medium to another with a different density. As light passes through the block it slows down and is refracted due to the greater density of the glass. The beams are refracted once when entering the glass (left) and again when they leave it (right). The greater the angle of incidence, the greater the amount of refraction.
