Caption: Aerial photograph of the Grindelwald-Fiescher Glacier in the Swiss Alps. Ice towers up to 80 metres high flanked an escarpment of the glacier in summer 2004. These ice giants are short-lived though. As the glacier slowly creeps downhill, they collapse. The rubble, which has gathered on the ice over the centuries, appears as dark stripes in the walls.
