Caption: Pentaquark particle. Illustration of the possible layout of the quarks in a pentaquark particle. Petaquark particles are a composite quark state different from the normal composition of matter. Their existence was confirmed by the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory. There are two possible structures for pentaquarks. The structure shown here consists of five quarks that are tightly bonded together. An alternative structure consists of a meson and baryon weakly bonded together (see image C026/8043). These results were reported in July 2015.
