Caption: Choline. Polarised light micrograph of a sample of choline, one of the B group vitamins. Choline is a colourless syrup which crystallises with difficulty. It is present as a constituent of lecithin in all animal and vegetable tissues. Its biological importance is in methylating reactions. As a free base, it is highly alkaline. Choline's full name is trimethyl-2-hydroxyethylammonium hydroxide. Magnification x90 at 6x6cm size.
